The field site: Akacievej, Hedehusene

Description of the field site, spill history, overview

  • Former dry cleaning facility in Denmark (1973-2003)
  • PCE spill in 1976 → dissolved plume with ca. 400 m length evolved until 2005
  • Removal of DNAPL by excavation of most polluted soil down to the top of the limestone in 2006
  • Installation of a pump-and-treat remediation system in 2007: pumping with 2.5 m3/h from the upper 6 meters of the limestone (mainly crushed limestone
  • Treatment of pumped water with activated carbon and reinfiltration through infiltration cassettes and an overflow well
